There are two main approaches to Acupuncture; Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The Western approach focuses more on the concept of the pain gate theory where the use of Acupuncture helps raise the pain threshold to create a window of opportunity for rehab in both acute and persistent pain conditions. This does not mean Acupuncture itself is painful.
The TCM approach is based on the body having 12 meridian or energy lines which are always in flow round the body. Injury creates a block in the flow of this energy and the use of Acupuncture on certain points assists in the release and return to a balanced state.

All of these will be carefully considered and if they occur safely managed.
All Acupuncture appointments are appropriately risk assessed and performed under clear safety processes.
